Self-cleaning Treatments

KEEPING SURFACES CLEAN WITH THE POWER OF THE SUN

TITANIUM DIOXIDE – TiO2

Self-cleaning treatments

NANOCOATINGS® self-cleaning treatments based on titanium dioxide (TiO₂) use the principle of photocatalysis to help keep surfaces cleaner for longer. In the presence of natural light, even diffused light, the treatment promotes the breakdown of organic substances deposited on the substrate, limiting the adhesion and build-up of dirt. A single application gives the surface a lasting functionality, helping to reduce the frequency of maintenance work and the use of chemical detergents.

The technology can also help counteract the formation of mould and fungi on the treated surface, helping to preserve its appearance and aesthetic characteristics for longer. It can also be an attractive solution in projects focused on environmental sustainability, thanks to the possibility of reducing cleaning operations, the consumption of chemical products and maintenance activities.

Self-cleaning treatments can be applied to:

Photovoltaic and solar panels, to limit the build-up of dirt, reduce the frequency of cleaning interventions and help maintain the efficiency of the surface over time.

Glass and curtain-wall façades, to reduce the adhesion of dirt and surface residues and limit maintenance interventions.

Stone, concrete and plaster walls, to counteract the build-up of dirt, the formation of mould and other blemishes, helping to preserve the appearance of the surfaces for longer.

Self-cleaning treatments can also help improve the quality of the air that comes into contact with the treated surface. Through the photocatalysis process, titanium dioxide (TiO₂) promotes the breakdown of certain airborne organic contaminants, helping to reduce the pollutants present in the environment.

NANOCOATINGS® carries out this type of treatment both at its own facility and directly at customers’ premises, facilities and plants, after a technical assessment of the surfaces and of the specific application conditions. →Read more

SELF-CLEANING TREATMENTS: LIGHT HELPS US WITH THE DIRTY WORK

Photocatalysis

Photocatalysis is a process in which light, natural or artificial, activates titanium dioxide (TiO₂), generating oxidation reactions capable of breaking down many organic substances present on surfaces or in the environment. In this process titanium dioxide acts as a catalyst: it promotes the reaction without being consumed and, when correctly anchored to the substrate, can maintain its functionality over time.

NANOCOATINGS® technologies use special TiO₂ nanostructures designed to adhere firmly to the different materials treated. Once applied and correctly fixed to the substrate, the treatment does not form a perceptible film and has high resistance to the normal stresses expected for the surface.

NANOCOATINGS® has verified through specific laboratory tests the resistance and durability of its treatments, including:

UNI-EN-ISO-6330 – WASH RESISTANCE ON FABRIC

ISO-695 – RESISTANCE TO ALKALINE ATTACK

EN-11861:2002 & EN-11863:2002 – FOOD CONTACT COMPLIANCE (M.O.C.A.)

For self-cleaning and photocatalytic applications, NANOCOATINGS® has developed the ZERO VOC PLUS line, made up of specific formulations designed for the different substrates. The composition and the application cycle are selected to promote maximum adhesion and effectiveness of the treatment even on difficult surfaces, such as plastic materials or substrates with water-repellent characteristics.

ZERO VOC products are available for:

Indoor environments ZERO VOC PLUS INDOOR

Indoor environments with antiviral and antibacterial activity ZERO VOC VB PLUS

Textiles ZERO VOC PLUS FABRIC

Marble & Ceramics ZERO VOC PLUS STONE

Outdoor environments ZERO VOC PLUS OUTDOOR

Glass, plastics and photovoltaics ZERO VOC PLUS GLASS

Wood ZERO VOC PLUS WOOD

Today, our photocatalytic technology is applied in numerous sectors, such as ceramic filters for air purifiers, ventilation filters (fan coils), self-cleaning and the preservation of historic buildings, textiles (both for self-cleaning and for antibacterial-antiviral activity), public and private transport, hospitals, boating and cruising, hotels, gyms and SPAs, public and private offices, schools, multi-purpose care homes, large-scale retail, as well as the glass sector.

NANOCOATINGS® carries out applications at its own facility and at third-party premises for this type of treatment →Read more
